Imagine a river. The water is clean and clear.
However, you are aware that silt has been building up on the river bed for some time, making the going increasingly difficult. The river bed needs dredging.
The process of dredging muddies the water. It is murky rather than clear, and hard to see through. The work of dredging is hard, too, and needs stamina, perseverance, and trust that the process will reap benefits.
After the dredging process, the silt begins to settle. The water starts to becomes clear again. The more the silt is allowed to settle, the clearer the water becomes.
Eventually, the water is clean and clear again, but this time the going is easier because of the process, and life returns to the river.
